The Getting Started Series is recommended for all first-time Daytona Beach Computer Learning Center students. The three courses prepare students for the more in-depth courses such as Internet & E-mail, Digital Imaging, Digital Photos, Genealogy, Personal Finance, and Spreadsheets.
You should take Getting Started 1 if:
¨ You send and receive E-mail but know nothing else about using a computer
¨ You are not comfortable using the mouse or the computer keyboard
¨ You do not know what hardware or software is installed on your computer
¨ You do not know how to turn on and/or properly shut down a computer
You should take Getting Started 2 if:
¨ You do not know how to create, move or delete files and folders
¨ You do not know how to manage a windows environment, work in more than one window at a time, find files and folders, open floppy disks or CD’s, write to floppy disks or CD’s
¨ You do not know how to copy, cut, paste words, sentences, documents, and/or files
¨ You do not know basic Internet and E-mail procedures
You should take Getting Started 3 if:
¨ You do not know how to set margins and tabs, change fonts and print size, change paper size, print a document
¨ You do not know how to incorporate graphics like fancy lettering or pictures in a document
¨ You do not know when or why a database or spreadsheet would be helpful to you
The Getting Started Series gives students the fundamentals skills to use a computer successfully and a clearer understanding of what computer programs they want to learn. While we feel that taking all three Getting Started courses provides a strong basis for future computer skill learning, it is not necessary to complete all three before enrolling in another course. For example, a student may wish to take the Internet course after Getting Started 2 and then take Getting Started 3.
If you are still unsure about the Getting Started Series, please call the Learning Center and we will be happy to help place you in the appropriate class.
